Without electricity, we would have no light, power, air-conditioning, or refrigeration. And without electricians, we would have no way to access these critical resources.
Electricians who specialize in construction work install wiring systems. To do this, they receive electrician training in blueprints, which indicate the locations of circuits, outlets, load centers, panel boards, and other equipment. Throughout installation, electricians must follow the National Electrical Code and comply with state and local building codes.
Maintenance electricians maintain and upgrade existing electrical systems and repair electrical equipment. With electrician training, they learn how to periodically inspect all equipment to make sure it's working properly, and locate and correct problems before breakdowns occur. Electricians also advise management about potentially hazardous equipment.
Electricians may also install low-voltage wiring systems, which involve voice, data, and video wiring systems, such as those for computers, fire alarm and security systems, intercoms, and telephones. Electrician training may also cover the installation of coaxial or fiber-optic cable for computers and electronic controls for industrial use.
Through electrician training programs, aspiring electricians become proficient with hand tools such as conduit benders, hacksaws, knives, pliers, screwdrivers, and wire strippers, as well as power tools such as drills and saws. They also learn the ins and outs of testing equipment such as ammeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and voltmeters.
With the steady increase of new technologies that require complex wiring systems, electricians will never be out of a job. Why not let electrician training light your way to a successful future?
